Four Ports, One Variable at a Time

A modern driver head is really a shell around two to four movable density ports, and we treat those as the primary fitting variable rather than an afterthought. Back-port mass raises launch and trims spin; front-port mass lowers spin further but tightens the sweet spot; heel and toe loading bias the face open or closed at impact. Once the arrangement is locked, shaft weight and flex get matched to the head's new balance point.

A chronic hook sometimes traces to a toe-heavy factory port setting rather than a swing path issue — worth checking before changing anything about your motion.

Sole-Track Weight, Tested From Tee and Turf

Fairway heads carry smaller ports than a driver, but placement still decides whether the club digs, skips, or glides on a descending strike. We run every fitting from both a tee peg and a fairway-height mat, since sole-track weight that behaves off a tee can dig or bounce once the club actually contacts turf. Rear-port mass is tested first for launch and forgiveness, then we check whether shifting forward improves turf interaction without giving up those numbers.

The Gap Decides the Port Arrangement, Not the Head

Before touching a demo hybrid, we measure the actual carry gap between your longest iron and shortest fairway wood on the monitor. That number decides which low-back port arrangement and loft combination gets tested first, dialed to launch high enough to hold a green while staying playable from rough — since a hybrid that only performs off a tee peg defeats its own purpose.

We Weigh Every Iron, Not Just the One That Feels Off

Irons rarely get multi-position ports, but most carry a single fixed port or tip-weight system that drifts out of tolerance over years of regripping and bag abuse. A single mismatched port in the middle of a set throws off swingweight progression for every club around it, so we pull and weigh every iron in the bag rather than only the one you flagged. Dynamic lie angle is checked at the same time, since a port issue and a bent lie angle can look identical on paper.

Bounce, Grind, and Port Weight, Tested Together

We capture your actual angle of attack and typical turf conditions before recommending a bounce or grind combination, then check whether the head's sole-weight or cavity-port construction is pulling swingweight in a direction that fights the geometry we just picked. Full swings and partial shots both get tested, since internal weighting that suits a full pitch can feel different on a 30-yard chip.

A dedicated putting rig records path, face angle, and rotation on your current putter first, so we know whether you naturally arc the face open-to-closed or keep it square throughout — that pattern decides which heel-toe port balance actually helps rather than fights your stroke. A face-balanced putter fighting a strong arc stroke (or the reverse) shows up as a consistent directional miss that a stroke lesson alone won't fix.
